Coordinates: 54 ° 28 ′ 7.8 " N , 13 ° 33 ′ 28.2" E
The Steinfelder nature reserve in the Schmalen Heide and extension is a 199 hectare nature reserve on the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It includes the flint fields , a representative section of the narrow heath and, as an extension, a second part of the area with a near-natural coastal dune . It was placed under protection on April 27, 1935. Two extensions of the area were made in 1959 and 1990.
The areas are located seven kilometers north of Binz between the Kleiner Jasmunder Bodden and the Baltic Sea . The state of the area is considered to be good. The high number of tourist visitors in the flint fields lead to disruption of the animal world.
The nature reserve is accessible via a hiking trail from Neu Mukran .
In 2009 the area was taken over by the German Federal Environment Foundation . According to EU law, the nature reserve is part of the FFH area Kleiner Jasmunder Bodden with peninsulas and Schmaler Heide.
