The Tetzitzer See nature reserve with the Liddow peninsula and Banzelvitz mountains is a 1088 hectare nature reserve on the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The designation took place on November 5, 1990 with an extension in 1994. The surrounding villages are Neuenkirchen and Rappin . A section of the lagoon waters of the north-ridge is protected , which has a great variety of habitats and is an important resting and breeding area for the bird world. The eponymous components are the Tetzitz lake in the west, the Liddow peninsula in the central part and the Banzelvitz mountains in the eastern part of the nature reserve. The Tetzitzer See is connected to the Great Jasmunder Bodden by the Liddow Current.

Overall, the areas are in good condition. The grazed salt marshes are classified as very good. The Tetzitzer See is influenced by nutrient inputs. The nature reserve is protected under EU law as part of the FFH area Nordrügensche Boddenlandschaft and the bird sanctuary Binnenbodden von Rügen .

The hiking trail from Liddow to Banzelvitz allows you to walk on the areas in places.

history

The nature reserve is embedded in a ground moraine landscape that was significantly shaped by the last Ice Age . The Tetzitzer See developed like the Jasmunder Bodden from a dead ice shape . Human use in the area has been documented for centuries. The Tetzitzer See is still used for fishing. The Liddow peninsula served as a sheep pasture and hut forest until the 19th century and was then planted with pine trees.

Flora and fauna

Typical for the nature reserve are shallow waters, brackish water reeds , salt marshes , semi-arid and sandy grasslands . Different forest communities appear with elm - oak - hornbeam forest and beech forest . Ilex is numerous. In the shallow water areas of the lake is growing pondweed .

The area is the resting and sleeping place of several species of Nordic geese and ducks , in particular thousands of gray , blue and bean geese as well as the crane .
