Red lake nature reserve near Glowe
Location of the NSG in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania |
The nature reserve Roter See bei Glowe is a nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It covers an area of 233 hectares and is located at the eastern end of the Schaabe not far from the village of Glowe . The areas border directly on the Great Jasmunder Bodden . The designation takes place on November 5, 1990 with an extension in 1994. The nature reserve is part of the FFH area Nordrügensche Boddenlandschaft .
The areas are in a satisfactory condition, as they continue to be drained despite being abandoned. The existing dike prevents natural flooding from the Jasmunder Bodden.
There are no public roads in the area. Part of the area (102 hectares) has been owned by the National Natural Heritage Foundation of the Nature Conservation Union since 2009 .
history
The Schaabe was created as a spit hook with reefs (beach wall), bar (depression between two beach walls) and dunes after the sea level rise of the Littorina transgression . The Red Lake consists of a large group. The originally named lake silted up and a coastal flood moor formed. Periodic flooding of the areas only 0.4 meters above sea level could take place until the dike was built in 1863.
Human settlement on the Schaabe has been documented since the Stone Age . Wittower farmers used the areas as a hut forest and as heather . The Urmes table sheet from 1836 shows the Red Lake as open water. From the 1861 onwards, the higher beach ridges were reforested with pine trees .
Flora and fauna
The sandy-gravelly shallow water areas belonging to the nature reserve are covered by salde and crested spawn . Occasional reeds grow on the bank . On the land side, after a one meter high edge, the flood moor joins, which is covered in places with sand. Typical species are goose cinquefoil , milkweed and carnation . Bristle grass , heather , carnation and occasional juniper grow in the sandy areas . The higher beach walls are covered with a forest of birch , pine and oak . Pipe grass forms the undergrowth. The moist ranks, fed by groundwater, are covered by a brackish reed bed with reeds and pennywort . The area of the Red Lake is free of forests.
Breeding birds in the area are buzzard , long-eared owl , marsh harrier , common raven , oriole and grosbeak . The Herpetenfauna is determined by adders and grass snakes , as well as common toad , jumping , grass and moor frog .
