Peter Herzog (born December 9, 1929 in Breslau ; † July 26, 2004 in Munich ) was a German actor .

life and work

After studying acting, Herzog received his first engagements in Berlin, from 1963 to 1969 at the Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer , then at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, where he worked for the first time with Dieter Dorn and was part of his ensemble for many years: initially from 1977 to 2001 at the Munich-based company Kammerspiele , then from 2001 to 2004 at the Bavarian State Theater .

The versatile actor played in classics such as The Persians of Aeschylus , Prince Friedrich von Homburg von Kleist or Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice alongside actors like Rolf Boysen , Thomas Holtzmann , Axel Milberg , Jens Harzer and Gisela Stein , but also worked in modern times Pieces such as Neue Freiheit - No Jobs by Herbert Achternbusch (film of the Kammerspiele), Die Walls by Jean Genet or The Fool and His Wife Tonight in Pancomedia by Botho Strauss .

Dieter Dorn wrote in the obituary notice: With him we are losing an actor who has brought the theater to life through his enthusiasm and commitment.

His son is the director Jens-Daniel Herzog .
