Herbert Asmodi
Herbert Asmodi (born March 30, 1923 in Heilbronn as Herbert Kaiser , † March 3, 2007 in Munich ) was a German writer , playwright and screenwriter .
Life
Herbert Asmodi was born as Herbert Kaiser in the city of Heilbronn. The mother Anna Kaiser (nee Liehm) came from Vienna, the father Christian Ernst Kaiser from Schwenningen. Herbert Asmodi attended the Karls-Gymnasium in Heilbronn, where he graduated from high school in 1942. During the Second World War he served as a soldier from 1942 to 1945 and was then taken prisoner by the Americans . After his release, he studied German, art history and philosophy at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg from 1946 . From 1952 he lived in Munich. He worked as a freelance writer and theater critic for the Münchner Merkur . Herbert Asmodi first wrote stage works , later also scripts, poems and stories. For his first play Jenseits vom Paradies (1954) he received the Gerhart Hauptmann Prize from the Free Volksbühne Berlin.
In the 1970s Herbert Asmodi was best known for his literary adaptations, especially the adaptations of English authors such as Wilkie Collins . Among other things, he wrote the scripts for Collins' novel adaptations, which were broadcast by WDR . The woman in white had around 25 million viewers in 1971. Wilhelm Semmelroth directed these films and Hans Jönsson composed the music.
From the mid-1970s Herbert Asmodi turned to poetry and published two volumes of poetry. He wrote novels and short stories in the 1980s .
Herbert Asmodi was married to his first wife Helga Kaiser (nee Wittmeyer; born 1931, died 1978) from 1956 to 1978. From this marriage he has a daughter (Katja, born 1963). Since 2001 he has been married to his second wife, Margarete Freifrau von Hallberg zu Broich (born 1936).

Herbert Asmodi's early plays are attributed to the theater of the absurd . His best-known dramas are Beyond Paradise (1953), Pardon Is Not Given (1958), Post-Season (1959), The Men Eaters ( 1962), Mohren Wash (1964) and Die and Become (1966), The True Story of Wild Life and Death Marie von Brinvilliers - Lovers, Poisoners and Marquisees (1970), Money (1973), The Story of the Little Blue Mountain Lake and the Eagle (1996, together with Wilfried Hiller ).
