Erhard Jöst (born November 22, 1947 in Mannheim ) is a German author , cabaret artist and former teacher from Heilbronn .

biography

Jöst grew up in Heddesheim . From 1954 to 1958 he attended elementary school and then the Moll-Gymnasium Mannheim. From 1967 to 1968 he was in the German Armed Forces and was promoted to lieutenant in the reserve after his service was over. When Pershing was stationed on the Heilbronner Waldheide in connection with the NATO double decision, he submitted an application for conscientious objection, which was rejected by the responsible military area administration because of its political justification. From 1969 Jöst studied German literature , history and philosophy at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , passed the first state examination in 1974 and in 1976 became a peasant hostility. The histories of the knight Neithart Fuchs on late medieval literature on Dr. phil. PhD . In 1977 he completed his legal clerkship with the second state examination. From 1976 to 2011 he taught the subjects of German, history, politics and ethics as a grammar school teacher, from 2008 to 2011 he was also the district staff member of the teaching staff at grammar schools at the regional council in Stuttgart .

He was married to Christel Banghard-Jöst († 2019); both have a daughter.

Since a seminar with Eberhard Lämmert on the poetry of the Wars of Liberation in the winter semester 1972/73, he has dealt with Theodor Körner . In 1997 he participated in the redesign of the Wöbbelin memorials and gave the speech on the occasion of the reopening of the Theodor-Körner-Museum. In May 2012 he gave a lecture on Körner's reception history at the Association for Corps Student History Research on the Rudelsburg . In 2013, Jöst unmasked an alleged Körner quote (you are still sitting up there, you cowardly figures ... ), which was spread by nationalist circles in the media and at Pegida demonstrations, as a fake.

He was a member of the scientific commission that evaluated the findings after the opening of the Vienna Neidhart grave in 2000, and he published two essays in the anthology Neidhart Reception in Words and Pictures , which presented the results of Neidhart research. In the handbook Neidhart and the Neidhart-Lieder published by Margarete Springeth and Franz Viktor Spechtler in 2018 , he presented Das Schwankbuch Neithart Fuchs and made contributions for Deutschlandfunk .

In a commemorative speech in Heidenheim in 2008, Jöst discussed the moral justification for the assassination attempt by Johann Georg Elser. On behalf of the Heilbronn City Archives, he dealt with the biography of the Heilbronn-born writer Herbert Asmodi. The essay was published under the heading Dramaturg and writer with a penchant for cynicism . In the Neckargartach Personalities series , Jöst introduces the children's book author Frida Schuhmacher (1892–1964). In 2020 he brought out a new edition of the poems by Ludwig Pfau under the title Freedom is the most beautiful festival .

cabaret artist

In 1988 he founded the cabaret ensemble GAUwahnen . The GAUwahnen play their programs in the Heilbronn K3 theater forum. From 1993 to 2015, on the eve of German Unity Day in Heilbronn and Frankfurt an der Oder, they presented a night of German community unity , in which stars of German cabaret such as Dieter Hildebrandt also played.

Jöst was friends with the cabaret artists Dietrich Kittner and Dieter Hildebrandt. His correspondence with them and various exhibits are in the German Cabaret Archive in Mainz.

Political activity

In November 1970, distributed Jöst with Young Socialists in Heddesheim at a charity concert for the construction of two denominational kindergartens leaflets calling for a non-denominational school. The mayor stopped the action by beating the leaflet distributors and causing a serious fall on the stairs. The prosecution at the Mannheim Regional Court dropped the lawsuit against him on the grounds that "there is no public interest in punishing the accused".

1980 and 1981 Jöst was a city ​​councilor in Bad Mergentheim . The headlines were made by various events that he organized during his time as Juso chairman in Bad Mergentheim: in 1979 a performance by cabaret artist Dieter Hildebrandt had to be moved to the Evangelical Community Center because the city council forbade the appearance in the adult education center on the grounds that this was only allowed be released for “educational and high-quality cultural purposes”. Also that year Jöst organized a presentation by Gert Bastian in Bad Mergentheim, which triggered a party dispute in the Bundestag over defense policy.

Jöst was transferred to Heilbronn by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture in 1981 because of the public use of a two-liner by Heinrich Heine . Jöst recorded this in two books which he edited together with the journalist Ruth Broda. The ZDF processed the books on the satirical magazine article Heinrich Heine and the German presence . In 1987, as the author of a national anthem parody, the teacher Jöst was checked for loyalty to the constitution in a “state action”. In 1995 he was transferred within Heilbronn for work on the staff council .

From 1969 to 2019 Jöst was a member of the SPD and volunteered for the party in numerous offices. He ran successfully in the local elections in May 2019 on the list of the party Die Linke for the Heilbronn city council.
