German cabaret archive

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The purpose of the German Cabaret Archive is to preserve the cultural heritage of cabaret , which is primarily a form of satire , and to document its history up to the present day. The head office is the Mainz Proviant-Magazin , which is also near the Cabaret Walk of Fame . A second location is in Bernburg an der Saale , where the history of the GDR cabaret has been archived in the Christian building of Bernburg Palace since 2004.

history

The archive was founded in 1961 as a private collection by Reinhard Hippen in Mainz and became the property of the city in 1989. On July 16, 2004, both the new location in the Mainz Proviant-Magazin and the Walk of Fame were ceremoniously opened by Christina Weiss , at the time the Federal Government's Commissioner for Culture and the Media . The first of the stars was dedicated to Werner Finck , who had financed a part-time position for Hippen in the 1970s and thereby supported him in setting up the archive. Jurist Jürgen Kessler managed Hippen's legacy from 1989 to 2019. Since July 1, 2019, the German Cabaret Archive has been led into the future with woman power: Archive manager Martina Keiffenheim and administrative manager Nicole Roth.

Extent of the archive

From 1901 onwards, all cabarets and cabaret events in German-speaking countries are continuously recorded in the archive and scientifically indexed. The same applies to the French forerunners from 1881. In addition, all activities in the field of chanson ( songwriter ) and political song are recorded.

The inventory includes a library with around 20,000 volumes and 86 sheet music folders . There are also around 10,000 analogue sound carriers ( tapes , LPs , MCs ) and around 200 digital sound and data carriers ( CD-ROMs , CDs , DVDs ). The inventory also includes around 2,000 AV media .

The poster archive contains around 4,000 posters . 250 original caricatures , stage and costume designs, manuscripts, certificates, text and director's books, press reviews, set designs, programs as well as the entire documentary bequests of Werner Finck , Trude Hesterberg , Irene de Noiret , Jürgen von Manger and other cabaret artists are also in the archive.
