Reinhard Hippen (born January 17, 1942 in Leer (East Friesland) , † April 25, 2010 in Mainz ) was a German graphic designer and founder of the German Cabaret Archive .

Life

Reinhard Hippen was interested in cabaret and satire at the age of 14 and began extensive collecting activities in these areas. Because of the cabaret artist Hanns Dieter Hüsch , who was living in Mainz at the time, Hippen also moved there and with his collection laid the foundation of the German Cabaret Archive he founded in 1961. Until 1989 he was in charge of it, after which it was taken over by the city of Mainz. Together with Klaus Budzinski he published the Metzler Cabaret Lexicon and was the author of several books on the history of German cabaret. Hippen was also a co-founder of the Walk of Fame of cabaret and the OpenOhr Festival in Mainz, as well as the festivals at Burg Waldeck (Hunsrück) . From 1968 Hippen worked with Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser ; He designed books and magazines for its pop culture publisher Kinder der Birthday Press , the program for the Essen International Song Days , and from 1970 onwards numerous record covers for the Krautrock record label Ohr .
