Ear (record label)
Ohr was a German record label active between 1969 and 1973 in the distribution of the Metronome , which played a pioneering role in the spread of the so-called Krautrock . The founder (together with Peter Meisel ), key maker and producer was the music journalist and concert promoter Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser . Some of the most important nationally and internationally known German rock bands such as Tangerine Dream , Embryo , Guru Guru and Ash Ra Tempel received their first record deal with Ohr . A total of 33 long-playing records (including five double LPs) and twelve 7-inch singles were released on the Ohr label. Renamed in 1973 to Kosmische Kuriere (and later again to Kosmische Musik ), further LPs under the direction of Kaisers were released under contractually often unclear circumstances.
history
In the late 1960s, many major record companies (saw major labels ) by the exploding rock music market led to call new "progressive" label for this very special market into life (eg EMI with the label Harvest Records and Philips with Vertigo Records , both 1969). With Ohr, the Metronome label was given the chance to specifically market German groups. The Cologne music journalist Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser, who had already co-organized the very successful “ International Essen Songtage ” in 1968 , used his experience and artist contacts he had made here and at the Burg-Waldeck-Festival and published more quickly after production began in late 1969 Follow a series of outstanding records whose artistic value was often only recognized years or decades later. The chief designer of the new underground label was the Mainz graphic artist Reinhard Hippen , who Kaiser had also known since the Burg Waldeck Festival; First Dieter Dierks and then the legendary Conny Plank were hired as sound engineer .
Many of the original editions of the ear long-playing records are now sought-after rarities among collectors.
