The band uses acoustic instruments ( guitar , bass , strings, flute , percussion ), electronic and male or female voices. Other band members: S. Marleni (guitar, keyboard, percussion, vocals), Sorakey (vocals), Ildìko (vocals), Anna-Maria K. ( viola ).

Surname

The “:” that frame the name characterize the self-contained meaning of the name, which, according to the self-image of the band, should not be reduced to its geographical or Christian-mythological meaning.

history

To date, three official full-time albums , an EP and several compilation contributions have been released. The first self-produced CD-R Waste Land is influenced by TS Eliot's epic poem and tells of the eternal conflict between cultures. The title metaphor can be seen as a synonym for the state of the world. Musically, ambience and ritual sounds are offered here, which are varied with a few acoustic accents.

The first album Kydos. Reflections on Heroism (2005) builds on this conceptual character and illustrates ideas of heroism across history. Folk songs appear here for the first time (two of them sung by Patrick Leagas ), which will continue to determine the soundtrack-like character of the music of: Golgatha: in the future. As a supplement to this album, the rather mythologically oriented mini-CD Icarus ep (2006) was released, which also combines ambience and folk structures.

Seven Pillars. Reflections on the Myth of TE Lawrence (2006) thematically continues the path that has begun, illustrating and commenting on the myth of the British writer, archaeologist and soldier Thomas Edward Lawrence “of Arabia” with musical means . Extensive string passages and an Arabic female voice appear here for the first time.

With Tales of Transgression & Sacrifice (2007): Golgatha switched from the small independent label Athanor (F) to the renowned Swedish publisher Cold Meat Industry . With an elaborate photo booklet (designed by Birthe Klementowski), numerous quotes and an expanded range of sounds, one deals with the philosophy of Georges Bataille . In addition to a new singer, you can hear complex percussion arrangements here.

In 2008 the epic album Sang Graal , recorded in close collaboration with the French neoclassical formation Dawn & Dusk Entwined , was released , which deals with various interpretations of the Grail myth .

In spring 2009 the Chinese label MidNight Productions released a ritual ambient CD of: Golgatha: which was created in collaboration with the photo artist Birthe Klementowski and is inspired by 12 photos that illustrate the cycle of life and death.

In 2011: Golgatha switched to the German label Trisol, where the album Horns of Joy was released immediately , a cycle of 13 pieces that deal with "nihilism and its overcoming" (linernotes).
