Cold Meat Industry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cold Meat Industry ( CMI ) was an independent label from Mjölby , Sweden . The focus of the publications was post-industrial , in this area it plays an important role. In particular, records from the areas of Dark Ambient , Death Industrial , Martial Industrial and Neofolk were released .

history

The label was founded in 1987 by Roger Karmanik and Peter Andersson (Lina Baby Doll, German Nepal ) in Linköping , Sweden. Originally it should be called "Triumph of Will". To avoid misunderstandings and negative effects on label policy, Karmanik and Andersson agreed on the name Cold Meat Industry. This comes from the song of the same name by Andersson's band Njurmännen, which was released in 1984 on the demo cassette Vem Är Pavul? appeared. Shortly after the release of Lille Roger's first CMI single Undead , Andersson moved to Gothenburg. Since then, Karmanik has mostly operated the label alone and has the music project Brighter Death Now . In addition, there were briefly some sub-labels such as Anarchy + Violence, Cruel Moon International, Death Factory, Pain in Progress and Sound Source, on which 1990-1991 some early recordings were released again as cassettes.

In the time after it was founded, the label specialized in very experimental industrial. After releasing other genres such as Neofolk and Dark Ambient, CMI quickly became known and developed into an influential record label with numerous, mainly Scandinavian bands.

In addition, festivals were held on a regular basis, at which several CMI acts performed. In November 1997, the tenth anniversary was celebrated with its own festival in Linköping, where Blood Axis performed, among others . This gig was released as Blót: Sacrifice in Sweden . In 2001, due to Roger Karmanik's personal problems, things became much quieter: The website was hardly updated, the frequency of releases decreased noticeably and some bands switched to other labels. However, festivals were still held regularly, such as the two-day Cold Meat Industry Festival in Melbourne (Australia). A corresponding DVD with the title Live in Australia was also released .

From 2011 it was released again in cooperation with the German label Tesco Organization , initially with three new records by Brighter Death Now. Tesco acted as a worldwide distributor, CMI only as a pure label.

On February 4, 2014, the end of Cold Meat Industry was announced on the label's own Facebook page.

Publications

In total, Cold Meat Industry has released over 200 sound carriers on CD and LP . The name of the individual publication is the label abbreviation CMI and the chronological number of the sound carrier, starting with 01. The catalog therefore begins with CMI.01 and ends with CMI.2xx.

Every tenth release was usually a sampler with the label's own bands. These editions were often made a little more elaborate or published as a double CD. One example of this is the double CD CMI.50 The Absolute Supper .
