Mjölby is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Östergötland County and the historical province of Östergötland . The place is the main town of the municipality of the same name .

geography

The Svartån River flows through Mjölby, the steps and falls of which were previously used to generate energy. In the north today the European route 4 leads past the place, which has also been a railway junction for a long time, as here the Södra stambanan on the route from Stockholm to Copenhagen is connected to the Godsstråket genom Bergslagen route to Motala and Hallsberg .

history

The place has taken the name of the parish , which is first recorded as Mylluby in 1285 . The name is made up of the old Swedish words mylna or mölna for mill and the suffix by for farm or village. Later the prefix became Mjöl- and means flour . The river, together with the fertile soil in the area, provides a good location for a mill. There used to be many mills along the river, only one of which is still in operation today. It is located right next to the train station. There is also historical evidence that two mills were donated to the Vreta monastery in 1268 by Birger Jarl's half-brother Elof .

In 2007 O-rings took place in Mjölby , an orienteering competition .
