Ataraxia is a neoclassical dark wave - band , which in November 1985 in Modena , Italy was founded.

history

In 1990 the band recorded their first demo Prophetia in their own production. The founding members were all high school students. Keyboardist Giovanni Pagliari worked in London and only joined in for the demo recording. After a few more songs, the musicians began to perform together. The band name refers to ataraxia , a kind of ideal of peace of mind in Epicurean philosophy. The members remained unchanged for a long time, in 2003 Riccardo Spaggiari joined them as percussionist. To date, the band has released over 20 albums in-house and on indie labels.

style

Ataraxia started out with post-punk and dark-wave sounds, while also doing a lot of early music . The style developed from elegiac-sacred waves to Neofolk . The band combines medieval mass chants and Gothic influences and draws on French minnesong. The texts are multilingual. The band joins Pagan-Folk and Ethno- Gothic and sees itself as a spiritual continuation of ancient Greek, Roman and Celtic cultures with a strong bond with nature.
