Puissance (French 'strength', 'power') is a Swedish martial-industrial / neoclassical music project that was founded in 1993. It consists of Henry Möller and Fredrik Söderlund.

style

Due to aesthetic aspects such as the design of her lettering and Söderlund's collaboration in various metal bands, Puissance is sometimes associated with Black Metal . However, the musicians do not use any analog instruments, but limit themselves to the use of samplers and computer-generated sounds, which is typical for the genre. In terms of style, Puissance moves between minimalist, very militant sounds ( Totalitarian Hearts , Evolution (Early Version) ) and "sacral sounds with a gentle spoken chant that can almost be described as shy" ( In Shining Armor , Whirlpool of Flames ). On the most recent album, Grace of God , the songs have a significantly higher quality production and gentler composition; partly the sound is reminiscent of pop music elements à la Dernière Volonté ( Walls of Freedom , In Death ).

Lyrically, Puissance stands "under the guiding star of a fundamental misanthropy" - another link to the black metal scene. Almost all of the pieces deal with misanthropic themes; From the violent subjugation of mankind ( Command and Conquer ) to its complete extermination through a campaign of annihilation out of boredom ( Totalitarian Hearts ), nuclear weapons ( Hail the Mushroom Cloud ) or the evolutionary urge to self- extinction ( Evolution ). With the exception of the first demo cassette Krig from 1995, all the lyrics are in English. A music video was shot for the track Conspiracy from the album Grace of God in 2015, which visualized the leitmotif of conspiracy theories in a nightmarish collage around singer Söderlund.
