Havoc Unit is a Finnish metal band that combines elements of death metal and industrial metal with electronic music . It was founded in 1995 as ... And Oceans and was renamed Havoc Unit in 2005.

biography

Founding members de Monde, Neptune and K-2T4-S played in a death metal band called Festerday since 1989 before they formed… And Oceans in 1995. The band first played a few demo recordings , their first officially recognized recording, Mare Liberum , was released in 1997 via Defender Productions from Sweden. The band signed two albums with the French record label Season of Mist . In the Finnish studio Tico Tico, known for his work with Impaled Nazarene , Sentenced , Thy Serpent and others, she recorded her debut album The Dynamic Gallery of Thoughts in October 1997 , designed by ex- At-the-Gates guitarist Alf Svensson and whose texts are in Finnish , Swedish , English and French .

The debut album was followed by a split release with Bloodthorn , on which a song by the other band and one by GGFH through ... And Oceans was covered. The idea for this release came from Season of Mist. After these recordings, Mr. Oos was replaced by Gaunt von Rotten Sound . In November 1998 the band recorded their second album in the Tico-Tico-Studio. Among other things, an exclusive title by Puissance and an ambient / noise CD that was created spontaneously in the studio were contributed to this, which was only included in the limited double digipak version. The 2001 released album AMGOD was first recorded in the Abyss studio , was released via Century Media and had a new logo; the change, as well as the adoption of new pseudonyms, was an idea of the singer. In addition, the band also incorporated electronic elements into their music there and on its successor, Cypher , including those from the techno sector. In 2005 the group renamed itself Havoc Unit and changed the musical direction to industrial metal . The members do not see this as a mere name change, rather Havoc Unit is a different concept than ... And Oceans. The band rarely performs live.

Style and texts

The group was originally formed from members of the Finnish death metal and black metal scene. Initially, they orientated themselves to the then popular symphonic black and dark metal (for the first two albums there were comparisons with Dimmu Borgir's Stormblåst and Borknagar ), but they did not see themselves as a black metal band and had no relation to Satanism . From the beginning, the group attached importance to the use of the synthesizer , which they considered to be "indispensable". The band founders Ambient and Dark Wave are also among their musical influences. Their style under the name… And Oceans is characterized as a mixture of grindcore and thrash metal with elements of symphonic metal and ambient . With the renaming to Havoc Unit in 2005, the band completed a musical reorientation towards industrial metal with influences from death and black metal. The band, renamed Havoc Unit, documented this stylistic change with their 2008 album h.IV + [Hoarse Industrial Viremia] , on which they increasingly rely on elements of electronic music . In their texts, the group turns against any form of religiosity, they use sometimes hateful words against religious writings such as the Bible , Koran or Talmud and the people who believe in them.
