Karjalan Sissit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karjalan Sissit is a martial industrial / dark ambient band. It was founded in Eskilstuna by Markus Pesonen from the disbanded death / doom metal band Eternal Darkness and the black metal band The Black . The band's name is derived from Karelian units and was chosen in memory of Pesonen's uncle who fought against the Soviet Union in the Winter War; the project comes from Sweden, but Pesonen is of Finnish descent and his work is an expression of his Finnish roots.

On her four albums to date, she has combined dark, calm sounds with orchestral passages, Finnish folk music (the third album, for example, begins with a humppa passage), historical recordings, choirs and military percussion. The ambientösen passages on their debut, which was released on Cold Spring, remember various of the darker elements Cold Meat Industry projects, while the percussion with that of the Blutharsch and based on the neoclassical with Les Joyaux De La Princesse is comparable. The second album was released on Cold Meat Industry and was reminiscent of both the drum pattern and the production of Sophia, whose member Peter Pettersson and Peter Bjärgo (also with Arcana ) had worked on the album. Pesonen moved away from this, however, with the following album, Karjalasta kajahtaa (roughly translatable as: 'Thunder from Karelia'), among other things through painful screaming. The album was released on Cyclic Law Records, is characterized by black humor and contains dark hits that have become a trademark of Karjalan Sissit, as well as lyrics about a life full of hopelessness and depression.

The album Miserere was described by NecroWeb as Pesonen's “probably harshest work to date”.
