Arno Clauss

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arno Clauss is a German songwriter and former radio presenter .

Life

Arno Clauss was born on the Lower Rhine and came to Berlin in the early 1970s , where he appeared in the folk pubs of the time such as Go-In , Steve Club and Folkpub with socially critical songs he wrote.

In 1972 his first album (which came out on CD in 1999) was released on the label Ohr . On it was his most successful song Karlchen or: It can't go on like this , a “talking blues” about a boy from a “very average German family” who wants to do “everything very differently” from his parents and then ultimately “ sets up an average three-person household ". The chorus sung

"It can't go on like this,
because that's how it sucks.
And if everyone stands together
then it'll be different, you know!"

became quite popular in the alternative scene at the time.

Another album was recorded live in the factory in Hamburg on June 2, 1974 , and a few singles and recordings on scrapbooks from various songwriters and folk festivals were released. In the early 1980s, he then withdrew from the songwriting scene.

Clauss also wrote for others, for example for the duo Inga & Wolf, the songs Come, come closer (set to music by Wolfgang “Schobert” Schulz ) and Peter , which he also sang himself.

At the Berlin radio station SFB (later: RBB ), Arno Clauss was very successful for years with his program Folkzeit , which he called "a journey through the cultures of songs, chansons and folklore". There he presented less and more well-known music from many countries around the world. The program ran on Tuesdays from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. on 88.8 (until the end of 1991: SFB 1), often with a thematic focus. After the broadcast on September 25, 2012, the broadcast by RBB was discontinued, much to the annoyance of its numerous regular listeners.
