Bruce Marshall

Bruce Marshall (born June 24, 1899 in Edinburgh , Scotland , † June 18, 1987 in Biot , France ) was a Scottish writer .

Life

Bruce Marshall initially worked as a chartered accountant after completing his years at the Universities of St Andrews and Edinburgh . He was seriously injured in World War I and one leg had to be amputated. In 1917 he converted to Catholicism . After the end of World War II, he lived in Cap d'Antibes, France until his death .

Marshall was one of the most successful Catholic writers of the 1940s and 50s. Almost forgotten today, his books were bestsellers back then and some of them were also successfully filmed.

Almost all of his novels in German translation have been published by Verlag Jakob Hegner , Cologne.

Quotes from reviews:

New Statesman: “As much as I love Nobody and The Miracle of Malachia , I think that this is Marshall's most typical novel to this day. Ingenious, witty, bursting with ideas, he combines the power of a good detective novel with the lofty mood of a swank and the satisfaction that a novel gives us from practical life ... "(from the German first edition of Auf Heller und Pfennig )

Die Welt, Hamburg: "Even Graham Greene only comes close to Marshall's new book in strength and glory ." ( Nobody comes up short )

Kölnische Rundschau: "Well said, a masterpiece of an artistic quality and character that is unique in its kind." ( Nobody misses out )

Due to the poor source situation, these quotations are taken from the book covers of the respective works.
