The young Törless is a film drama from 1966 and Volker Schlöndorff's film adaptation of the novel The Confusions of the Zöglings Törless (1906) by Robert Musil , in which an outsider is the victim of sadistic torture of his classmates.

Basini is in a k. and k. Boarding school convicted of theft by two of his schoolmates. They decide not to report him to the boarding school management - which would result in his exclusion - but blackmail Basini to be of service to them. Basini is repeatedly tormented at night in a secret chamber by Reiting, who is sadistically oriented, and Beinberg is psychologically interested, and then sexually abused. As a confidante, fascinated and repelled by the physical torture at the same time, the young Törless participates, who in the face of this hustle and bustle only wants to clarify his own homoerotic feelings, but despite all the distancing he becomes more and more an accomplice.

When Basini finally, at the end of his strength, wants to turn to the school management, beinberg and Reiting incite the other students against him, drive them to lynch justice and thus cause a scandal within the school. Before the teachers, who above all want to preserve the good reputation of the boarding school, they are unsuspecting. But Törless, who in a self-critical pleading states the coexistence of good and bad (It just happens. We can't do anything about it.) And does not try to justify himself like his classmates, makes himself suspicious. He is advised to leave the boarding school. His mother picks him up and brings him home.
