← European Champion Clubs' Cup 1987/88 |
The 1988/89 European Champion Clubs' Cup was the 34th edition of the competition. 31 club teams took part, including the defending champion and current champions from the Netherlands PSV Eindhoven and 30 other national champions from last season. The final was played on May 24, 1989 at Camp Nou in Barcelona .
The participants played in a pure cup mode with (except for the finals) back and forth games for the crown of European club football. In the case of a tie, the higher number of goals scored away counted first; if there was also a tie, the second leg was extended and, if necessary, a penalty shoot-out was played immediately afterwards.
