Alberico Evani , often incorrectly also Alberigo Evani (born January 1, 1963 in Massa , Italy ), is a former Italian football player and current coach .

Player career

In the club

Alberico Evani began his football career in the youth department of AC Milan . On October 11, 1981 , at the age of 18, he made his Serie A debut for the Rossoneri , for whom he had already played a game in Serie B in the previous season , in the game against FC Bologna under Luigi Radice as a left - back . After the direct relegation, Evani was already a regular in Serie B in 1982/83, completed 35 of the 38 games and made promotion again with Milan .

In the following years, AC Milan was the most successful club team in the world and Alberico Evani was always a regular, even if his position shifted from left defensive to left midfield with the arrival of Arrigo Sacchi and the debut of Paolo Maldini . In the 1987/88 season Evani won his first Italian championship under Sacchi , in 1989 and 1990 he won the European Cup as well as the European Supercup and the World Cup .

With the commitment of Fabio Capello as Milan coach, Evani was used in the central midfield. In 1991/92 and 1992/93 he won his Scudetti number two and three under the Friulian coach .

In the summer of 1993, Alberico Evani moved to Sampdoria Genoa at the age of 30 , where he was under contract for four seasons. With Samp he won the Coppa Italia in 1993/94 under Sven-Göran Eriksson , but in Serie A they were not a title contender. From September to December 1997 Evani played for the AC Reggiana , then for the US Carrarese in the C1 series , where he ended his active career in May 1998.

In the national team

His former club coach Arrigo Sacchi called Alberigo Evani for the first time in 1991 in the Italian national team , for which he made his debut on December 21, 1991 in a 2-0 win against Cyprus .

In 1994, Sacchi also called him to the Italian squad for the World Cup in the USA , where he played two games and advanced to the final with the Azzurri , in which Brazil had to be beaten 3-2 on penalties .

The last of his 15 internationals for the Squadra Azzurra Evani completed October 8, 1994 in a 2-0 win in Estonia .

Coaching career

Alberico Evani coached the youth team of the Allievi Nazionali age group of AC Milan, with whom he was Italian champion in 2006/07 and later the Primavera of the Milan club. In the 2009/10 season he was head coach of the San Marino's club San Marino Calcio in Lega Pro Seconda Divisione .

From 2010, several coaching stations with the Italian association followed . Evani first became assistant coach of the U19 team in 2010 before he took over the U18 team himself . From 2011 to 2013 he acted in personal union as coach of the U18 and U19 teams. From 2013 to 2017 he coached the U20 team before becoming assistant coach of the senior national team . His predecessor Paolo Vanoli switched to FC Chelsea , coached by Antonio Conte , which is why Gian Piero Ventura brought him to the Squadra Azzurra . After missing the World Cup and Venutra's release, Luigi Di Biagio became interim head coach, so that Evani also replaced him interim as coach of the U21 team . Even after Roberto Mancini was signed as the new head coach, Evani remained assistant coach of Italy.
