Alessandro "Billy" Costacurta (born April 24, 1966 in Jerago con Orago ) is a former Italian football player . He spent over 20 years of his career with AC Milan . He is also one of ten players who have won the Champions League five times.
Player career
The defender began his professional career as early as 1985 at AC Milan , with the exception of the 1986/87 season, which he played for third division Monza Calcio , he played his entire career at AC Milan. However , he only played his first Serie A game on October 25, 1987 against Hellas Verona .
Costacurta and his club have won the Italian championship seven times , the national cup once, the European Super Cup twice and the national champions' cup five times and its successor, the UEFA Champions League (most recently in 2007). This makes him one of the most successful football players in Italy.
With the 2: 3 against Udinese Calcio on May 19, 2007 he ended his active career as a football player at the age of 41. In this game he also scored his third and thus also last goal for AC Milan.
National team career
Costacurta made his debut at the age of 25 for the Italian national football team in 1991 against Norway (1-0). At the soccer World Cup in 1994 in the USA he reached the final with Italy, but was not on the field due to a suspension. Italy lost to Brazil 2-3 on penalties. By his retirement in 1998 he made 59 international matches.

Coaching career
In the 2007/08 season he was assistant coach to Carlo Ancelotti at AC Milan alongside Mauro Tassotti . During this season, the English second division team Queens Park Rangers , whom Formula 1 manager Flavio Briatore had just acquired, wanted to sign Costacurta as head coach. However, he declined the offer.
Of 27. October 2008 to February 2009 he was coach of AC Mantova in the Serie B .
Curiosities
Costacurta became the second oldest player to ever play a game in the UEFA Champions League , having played a game between AC Milan and AEK Athens on November 21, 2006 at the age of 40 years and 213 days . Only Marco Ballotta , also an Italian, was older in the service of Lazio Rome . This played with 43 years and 253 days watching the match on 11 December 2007 against Real Madrid in goal for the Romans.
