Mauro Tassotti (born January 19, 1960 in Rome ) is a former Italian football player and current coach .

Career

The defender began his career in 1978 with Lazio Rome before moving to AC Milan two years later . With the Milan club he won the Champions League three times : 1989, 1990 and 1994. He was also able to win the European Supercup three times (1989, 1990, 1994) and even the World Cup twice (1989, 1990). In 1988, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1996 Tassotti was also able to secure the Italian championship title. The defender won the Italian League Cup four times (1989, 1992, 1993, 1994).

Tassotti's national team career, however, was less successful. In the 1994 World Cup quarter-finals against Spain, during a Spanish attack, he knocked Luis Enrique 's elbow in the face and broke his nose, unnoticed by the referee . Subsequent evaluations of footage by FIFA resulted in eight games being banned. Tassotti was never allowed to play for the Squadra Azzurra again . Thus Tassotti came to seven internationals.

After his playing career, Tassotti worked for AC Milan for 14 years as an assistant coach.
