Anne Kersten

Anne Kersten (born November 26, 1895 in Mannheim ; † February 23, 1982 in Munich ) was a German actress .

biography

She began her career with Louise Dumont at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus , followed by engagements at the Staatstheater Darmstadt , where she was seen in the title roles of Lulu and Saint Johanna von Shaw from 1923 to 1925 . In 1933/34 she played at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and from 1934 belonged to the ensemble of the Bavarian State Theater .

In Munich she played many important roles well into old age. One of her most important roles was the Penthesilea (1942). She embodied the Duchess in The Bride of Messina (1951), Jo in The Fettered Prometheus (1951), Lady Waynflete in Shaw's Captain Brassbound's Conversion (1954), Elisabeth (first 1941) in Maria Stuart (1955, with Maria Wimmer as an opponent) , Whore in Genet's Die Walls (1968), Mother in Coriolan (1970), Madame Pernelle in Tartuffe (1971), Grandmother in Woyzeck (1972), Queen Eleonore in King Johann (1974), Claire Zachanassian in The Visit of the Old Lady ( 1975) and Nurse in Medea (1976, with Lola Müthel in the title role).

Anne Kersten only rarely took part in film and television productions. She also worked as a voice actress . In 1959 she received the Bavarian Order of Merit.
