Park Kultury ( Russian Парк культу́ры ( pronunciation ? / I ); German Kulturpark ) is a subway station of the Moscow Metro on the "red" line . It was opened on May 15, 1935 as part of the first construction phase of the metro and was the southern terminus of the line until 1957. Audio file / audio sample

The station, which is 10.5 meters underground, is located in the south-west of central Moscow . It has two entrances. One of them is via a separate rotunda-like vestibule, which was built in 1935 and is located on the inner side of the garden ring , the other via a common vestibule completed in 1950 with the station of the same name on the ring line . This vestibule building on the opposite side of the garden ring also provides the transition between the two underground stations.

The architecture of the platform hall of the underground station is relatively simple and is reminiscent of several other underground stations opened in Moscow in 1935, such as Sokolniki or Arbatskaja (old) . The hall is supported by two rows of 23 rectangular pillars each, which are clad with yellow-brown marble . The outer walls above the tracks are clad in white glazed ceramic tiles. The northern vestibule, which is decorated inside with a mosaic image of the author Maxim Gorki , can be reached via stairs from the end of the platform. A staircase leads from the center of the platform to the shared vestibule with the Kolzewaja-Linie and to the station of the same name, followed by a transition tunnel and a short escalator .

The name of the subway station can literally be translated as "Kulturpark", which is synonymous with the nearby Gorky Park . The walk from the southern vestibule of the subway station to the main entrance of the park is around ten minutes along the garden ring, and you have to cross the Crimean Bridge over the Moscow River .

In March 2010, the station was one of the sites of the two suicide attacks on the Moscow subway.
