general description

The station, 40 meters below the surface, is located in the south-west of central Moscow . It has access via a separate vestibule building on the outer side of the garden ring . One of two entrances to the underground station of the same name on the “red” line is also integrated into this building. Passengers who want to get from Kolzewaya to the Sokolnicheskaya line at Park Kultury underground station have to take an escalator from the platform hall to the vestibule and from there take another escalator to the direct transition to the Sokolnicheskaya line.

The name of the subway station can literally be translated as "Kulturpark", which is synonymous with the nearby Gorky Park . The walk from the vestibule of the subway station to the main entrance of the park is around ten minutes along the garden ring, and you have to cross the Crimean Bridge over the Moscow River . The next eastern ring line station Oktjabrskaja is even closer to the entrance of Gorky Park than the station Park Kultury named after the latter.

Apart from the escalator shaft to the vestibule building, the Kolzewaja line underground station has no other access. In the medium term, the construction of a second access at the other end of the platform is planned to relieve the existing access, which is often clogged during rush hour traffic. In 2011, however, the old entrance and the vestibule will be completely renovated; work will start on February 5th. As a result, the entire metro station will have to be closed for several months of reconstruction, as was the case at Elektrosavodskaya and other Moscow metro stations with only one access.

architecture

The vestibule building, which was built at the same time as the underground station, is clad with white limestone and decorated with several arcade-shaped portals. It was built according to a design by the architect Igor Roschin; The same applies to the platform hall, to which three parallel escalators lead from the vestibule. Like most of the other Moscow underground platforms, the hall at Park Kultury is a three-part central platform. Its 9.5 m wide central area is separated from the two track areas by an arcade-like row of pylons . The decorative relief stripes on the vault of the hall make it somewhat similar to a cross vault typical of cathedrals. Each pylon is adorned with a round border, each of which contains a white marble relief image with motifs on the subject of local recreation (based on the Gorki Park, which was designed as an important local recreation area). In the color scheme of the station, however, gray and black tones dominate, which can be seen in the light gray marble cladding of the pylons as well as in the design of the outer platform walls made of black marble and labradorite, which is characteristic of this underground station . The floor of the platform hall is made up of light gray and black granite slabs with a carpet-like pattern.
