Carl Oswald Galle (born April 26, 1868 in Dresden ; † September 18, 1935 ) was a German painter and sculptor .

Live and act

Oswald Galle first did a 4-year apprenticeship as a wood sculptor in Dresden and then attended the arts and crafts school , where he studied under Donadini . In 1893 he entered the Dresden Art Academy . Hermann Prell , for whom he later worked as a studio student, had been his teacher since the end of 1894. After being awarded the large silver and small gold medals, he received an academic travel grant for 1901 and 1902 , which he used to travel to Italy. In the following years he lived as a freelance artist in Dresden and Berlin-Friedenau .

Galle mainly painted male nudes in the great outdoors. His best-known works are Archers from 1904, Men’s Group from 1912 and Am Ufer and In der Badeanstalt from 1913. In 1913 he made a mural for the secondary school in Blasewitz with the title Pictures from the Lives of Greek Youths , which is one of his main works. A boy relief made of marble from 1903 bears witness to his sculptural work. His trip to Italy is documented by several watercolors .

Oswald Galle belonged to the Berlin Secession until 1913 and then to the Free Secession . Works by him were shown at the first exhibition of the Free Secession Berlin in 1914 in the exhibition house on Kurfürstendamm.
