Hermann "Mani" Viktor Weber (* 26. February 1935 in Basel , † 15. September 2006 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss television - quizmaster , presenter and radio reporter .

Life

Weber grew up in Basel's Gundeldinger district . After abandoning his studies in economics , he started his career as a 25-year-old radio editor at the Swiss radio station DRS , where he was mainly heard as a sports reporter . At the same time, he was active as a goalkeeper for the Swiss national handball team .

His television career began in 1963 with the guessing game " Dopplet oder nüt ", which he moderated until 1970. In doing so, he became the most sought-after bachelor in Switzerland and was given the nickname Mäni national . His follow-up program “Wär gwünnt” (Whoever wins) was also a “ street sweeper” from 1973 onwards .

Between 1965 and 1976 Weber presented the program "Practical Medicine", which was awarded the Grand Prix de Cannes in 1967 for the best live documentary program. In 1968 he was allowed to receive the «Tele-Brillant» as the most popular television producer voted by the public. In the same year Weber married the former stewardess Irene Monigatti, which attracted great public attention. The marriage ended in divorce after 3 years.

In 1977 Weber ended his television career at its peak. He remained loyal to radio until 1994 when he withdrew completely from the public. After his retirement he lived in Weggis on Lake Lucerne. He died in Lucerne in 2006 at the age of 71 after a brief, serious illness.
