Anne Marie Moss
Anne Marie Moss (born February 6, 1935 in Toronto , † February 29, 2012 in New York City ) was a Canadian jazz singer and vocal teacher.
Live and act
Anne Marie Moss was largely self-taught (she was taught breathing exercises by Portia White in 1955), performed as a child and began as a jazz singer in the early 1950s in the groups of Joey Masters and Calvin Jackson , who worked in Toronto. She also sang in dance bands and appeared in various entertainment programs on the CBC , occasionally with the bands of Norman Symonds and Ron Collier . From 1956 to 1958 she toured Canada and the United States with Don Thompson .
In 1959 she was a band singer in the Maynard Ferguson Big Band ; in the USA she also worked with the Count Basie Orchestra and briefly replaced Annie Ross in the vocal trio Lambert, Hendricks & Ross. In 1961 she married the singer Jackie Paris . The two performed together in nightclubs until 1980 and played the album Live at the Maisonette with Steve Gadd in 1975 ; In 1980 her solo album Don't You Know Me? (Stash) with jazz standards like My Romance , I'm Old Fashioned or How Long Has This Been Going On . In the 1980s she performed occasionally in Toronto after separating from Jackie Paris in 1981; otherwise she taught singing, from 1987 at the Manhattan School of Music in New York.
