As a result of the reorganization of the arrondissements in 2017, the arrondissement Alençon became the area of the eleven commons Avrilly , Champsecret , Domfront en Poiraie , La Ferté-Macé , Lonlay-l'Abbaye , Lonlay-le-Tesson , Les Monts d'Andaine , Saint -Bômer-les-Forges , Saint-Brice , Saint-Clair-de-Halouze and Saint-Gilles-des-Marais assigned to the Argentan arrondissement.
For this, the were Arrondissement Alençon the eight municipalities Almenêches , La Bellière , Boissei-la-Lande , Le Château-d'Almenêches , Francheville , Médavy , Montmerrei and Mortrée and the area of the former municipality Marmouillé allocated from the Arrondissement of Argentan.
