Ménil-Hermei is a French municipality with 203 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Orne in the region of Normandy .

geography

Ménil-Hermei is located in the middle of Norman Switzerland , four kilometers from the Roche d'Oëtre lookout rock . The municipality borders on the Calvados department . The municipality is traversed by the Orne over a length of three kilometers, from the Baizeron over four kilometers and from the Baize over a good kilometer.

History and culture

The place was probably first mentioned in the 13th century under the name Mesnillum Hermei . Another document from this period shows that a nobleman named Guillaume de Bellière donated the site, including the Sainte-Marie church, to the Abbey of Falaise . The actual foundation date of the place is estimated at the 10th century.

Between two hills is the Lavoir de Bougard , which is located on the old Roman road to Briouze . There is another lavoir in the hamlet of La Vieville .
