Culture and history

The existence of the place has been documented since the 13th century, but it is believed that there was a settlement earlier. In economic terms, it was characterized by a quarry and the processing of its raw materials until the 19th century . Building on this, trade and craft were also strongly represented. Near the village church is a fortified complex surrounded by a moat, which once belonged to the feudal lords and served to defend the place. Next to it was the residence of the ruling family, whose name Guillaume can be found in today's community name .

Trivia

In September 1998, Saint-Honorine-la-Guillaume hit the headlines when former German terrorist Hans-Joachim Klein was arrested there. Before that he had lived for years under a false name in the hamlet of La Dandière , which belongs to the municipality .
