Aunou-le-Faucon - Tour aux Anglais

Aunou-le-Faucon is from the region and a number of individual farms (fermes) existing northern commune with 246 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Orne in the region of Normandy .

location

The elongated street village of Aunou-le-Faucon is located on the northeast bank of a mostly waterless tributary of the Orne about 5.5 km (driving distance) southeast of Argentan at an altitude of about 163  m. The next largest city is about 40 km (driving distance) to the south Alencon . The climate is influenced to a large extent by the sea and is therefore almost frost-free; Rain (approx. 725 mm / year) falls throughout the year.

  • The round stair tower of the Tour aux Anglais country residence (manoir) dates from the 14th century; the residential wing was renewed in the 17th century. The building ensemble has been recognized as a monument historique since 1981 .
  • The simple village church of Saint-Cyr et Saint Julitte , made of field stones , is dedicated to the saints Quiricus and Julitta ; she was dependent on the Cistercian monastery of Saint-André-de-Gouffern . In the early 18th century the building received a new west portal in the style of a simple baroque ; the pediment shows two angels blowing trumpets surrounded by clouds. At about the same time, the nave and the apse were architecturally adapted to one another. Numerous statues from the 18th century are listed.
