Bréel is a village and a former French commune with 125 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Orne department in the Normandy region . It belonged to the canton of Athis-de-l'Orne and the Arrondissement of Argentan .

With effect from January 1, 2016, the previous communes of Athis-de-l'Orne , Bréel , La Carneille , Notre-Dame-du-Rocher , Ronfeugerai , Ségrie-Fontaine , Taillebois and Les Tourailles became a nouvelle commune with the name Athis -Val de Rouvre and have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Athis-de-l'Orne.

geography

Bréel is located 15 kilometers northeast of Flers on the Rouvre River . Nearby is the Roche d'Oëtre . Bréel is located in a hilly landscape, the Rouvre loses 40 meters in height in the municipality.

Until 2016, the neighboring municipalities of Bréel were Saint-Philbert-sur-Orne in the north, La Forêt-Auvray in the east and south, Notre-Dame-du-Rocher in the south-west and Ségrie-Fontaine in the south-east.

history

A granite wine press for making cider from Bréel was shown at the 1900 World's Fair in Paris .

Economy and Infrastructure

Bréel is on the road from Truttemer-le-Grand to La Forêt-Auvray , which follows the course of an old Roman road. The river Rouvre is used by white water enthusiasts.

Today there are hardly any agricultural businesses in Bréel, but there is a carpentry shop and an electrician.
