Ronfeugerai is a village and a former French commune with 338 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Orne department in the Normandy region . It belonged to the canton of Athis-de-l'Orne and the Arrondissement of Argentan .
With effect from January 1, 2016, the previous communes of Athis-de-l'Orne , Bréel , La Carneille , Notre-Dame-du-Rocher , Ronfeugerai , Ségrie-Fontaine , Taillebois and Les Tourailles became a nouvelle commune with the name Athis -Val de Rouvre and have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Athis-de-l'Orne.
geography
Ronfeugerai is eight kilometers northeast of Flers , to which there is a small border in the southwest. The former municipality, which was stretched in a north-south direction, was essentially bounded by the municipalities of Athis-de-l'Orne and La Carneille . The Lembron and Lembronnet creeks formed the borders until 2016.
etymology
The name is derived from Rouge Fougère , which means "red fern ". This is also included as an element in the municipal coat of arms.
history
Due to its favorable location, the village was the scene of a meeting of canvas painters in the 18th century.
Culture and sights
The village church of Saint-Hilaire was built between 1885 and 1900. The bell tower, completed in 1898, was partially destroyed by lightning in 1898 and restored in the same year. After being lifted from the roof of the church in a storm on February 3, 1990, it was placed back on March 6, 1991. The church has a Romanesque porch and a 12th century holy water font . The neo-Gothic altar dates from the 19th century.
Economy and Infrastructure
Most of the employees work in Flers, Condé and Messei . There are also a few shops in Ronfeugerai. In 1985 a multi-purpose hall was built. In the education sector, there is a cooperation with the neighboring towns of Durcet , Les Tourailles , La Carneille and Sainte-Opportune .

In 1850 the community still had 830 inhabitants. The population increased during the 1980s with the construction of 40 single-family houses.
