The courtyard

Gut Überhaaren is considered to be the oldest known manor in Haaren near Aachen . The name (formerly Overhaaren) is derived from the location above the center of Haaren. The farm comprised large estates and buildings, including the Welsche Mühle, which still exists today, for a long time . The actual courtyard building has been preserved to this day , a listed building. The name of the nearby street 'Auf Überhaaren' is reminiscent of the once important farm.

history

The court is listed in the register of imperial court fiefs in the imperial city of Aachen. From this it can be seen that until the end of the 13th century it belonged to the chargeable Carolingian imperial estate . However, the origin of the farm goes back to the Carolingian period.

In 1822 the district of Überhaaren owned by the Haaren mayor's office had 2 fire places.

In 1827 there were 14 Catholic souls in the village of Überhaaren (Ditto and Schenke).

In 1830, 14 residents of the Ueberhaaren estate are named in another source.

In 1832, in the course of a legal dispute with the Haaren community, Paul Lennarz was named as the owner of the property.

In 1852 two residential buildings are mentioned and the population of the estate and the Überhaaren tavern is estimated at 9 Catholic souls.

At the end of the 19th century, Gut Überhaaren and the Welsche Mühle were owned by the Aachen family Cornel von Guaita and his wife Fanny, nee. Vullers. The marriage was childless. At the beginning of the 20th century, Überhaaren was brought into a foundation administered by the city of Aachen.

Todays use

At the beginning of the 1990s, the remaining buildings on the street 'Auf der Hüls' (formerly 'Südstraße') were completely restored in compliance with the preservation of historical monuments and numerous historical elements and converted into a residential property with 16 individual owner-occupied apartments.
