Mortrée is a French commune with 1,175 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Orne in the region of Normandy . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Alençon , to the canton of Sées (until 2015: canton of Mortrée ). It is an access community associated with the Normandy-Maine Regional Nature Park .
It was created as a Commune nouvelle of the same name with effect from January 1, 2019 through the amalgamation of the previous municipalities of Mortrée and Saint-Hilaire-la-Gérard , which have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Mortrée.

geography
The municipality is located around 20 kilometers north of Alençon with parts in the Normandy-Maine Regional Nature Park . The Thouane River runs along the western municipal boundary and the Sennevière River to the east , both of which are smaller tributaries of the Orne . The A88 motorway runs through the north of the municipality . Neighboring communities are: Médavy in the north, Le Château-d'Almenêches in the north-east, Macé in the east, Belfonds in the east and south-east, La Ferrière-Béchet and Tanville in the south, Le Cercueil in the south-west, Montmerrei in the west and Boischampré in the north-west.
