The Arrondissement Vire is an administrative district in the Calvados department in the Normandy region of France .
history
On March 4, 1790, with the establishment of the Calvados department, a District de Vire was founded, which essentially coincided with today's arrondissement. The district became the Arrondissement Vire with the establishment of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800.
geography
The arrondissement borders in the north on the arrondissement Bayeux , in the east on the arrondissement Caen , in the southeast on the arrondissement Argentan in the department Orne , in the southwest on the arrondissement Avranches and in the west on the arrondissement Saint-Lô , the last two in the department Manche .
The arrondissement includes municipalities from three constituencies (cantons):
- Canton Aunay-sur-Odon (with 27 of 29 municipalities)
- Canton of Condé-sur-Noireau
- Canton of Vire

As a result of the reorganization of the arrondissements in 2017, the area of the two municipalities Aurseulles and Caumont-sur-Aure as well as the area of the two former municipalities La Lande-sur-Drôme and Sept-Vents from the Arrondissement of Bayeux and the area of the 19 municipalities of Amayé- sur-Seulles , Bonnemaison , Courvaudon , Épinay-sur-Odon , Landes-sur-Ajon , Longvillers , Maisoncelles-Pelvey , Maisoncelles-sur-Ajon , Malherbe-sur-Ajon , Le Mesnil-au-Grain , Monts-en-Bessin , Parfouru-sur-Odon , Saint-Denis-de-Méré , Saint-Louet-sur-Seulles , Tracy-Bocage , Val d'Arry , Villers-Bocage , La Villette , Villy-Bocage and the area of the former municipality of Campandré- Valcongrain from the arrondissement of Caen assigned to the arrondissement of Vire.
