Aunay-sur-Odon is a former French commune with last 3,283 inhabitants (as of January 1 2014) in the department of Calvados in the region of Normandy ; it belonged to the Arrondissement of Vire and the canton of Aunay-sur-Odon .
On January 1, 2017, Aunay-sur-Odon was incorporated into the new municipality of Les Monts d'Aunay together with six neighboring municipalities as part of a regional reform . Aunay-sur-Odon acts as the “superordinate district” as the administrative seat of Les Monts d'Aunay.

Aunay-sur-Odon is crossed by the Odon river. Neighboring communities to Aunay-sur-Odon were Le Mesnial-au-Grain in the north, Bauquay and Saint-Agnan-le-Malherbe in the northeast, Courvaudon in the east, Bonnemaison in the southeast, Roucamps in the south, Ondefontaine in the southwest, Saint-Georges-d 'Aunay to the west and Longvillers to the northwest.
history
Aunay-sur-Odon is at the crossroads of the roads from Caen to Vire and Bayeux to Falaise . Due to this situation, the city was from 12th and 14th / 15th centuries. June 1944 (i.e. one week after D-Day on June 6, 1944) completely destroyed by Allied bombing. A quarter of the population was killed in the attacks. In the years 1947 to 1951, Aunay was newly laid out as a planned town.
