history
The name of the place is probably of Gallic origin if the meaning is not clearly clarified . It is already documented by coins from the Merovingian period. In 865 Pope Nicholas I took the place Vendopera in the kingdom of Charles the Bald under his protection. The fiefdom was subordinate to the Lords of Troyes.
At the beginning of the 12th century, Rocelin de Vendeuvre became an advisor to the Counts of Champagne. Hilduin de Vendeuvre became dean and later bishop of Langres at the beginning of the 13th century .
By Miles X. de Noyers , Marshal of France , the divided rule was reunited in the 14th century. Towards the end of the 15th century, it was acquired by Charles II. D'Amboise , after it had previously passed to Dreu de Mello via Isabel de Noyers . Via Charles' niece Antoinette d'Amboise , the place then passed to her first husband, the Lord of Barbezieux , Seneschal of Guyenne and Admiral of France Antoine de La Rochefoucauld and later to their son Charles, who was appointed lieutenant general of the government of Champagne. In the 17th century, rule passed through the heirs of Henri de Luxembourg to Jean de Mesgrigny, Prime Minister of the Parliament of Provence, and in the 18th century it was sold to Gabriel Pavée, whose descendants Pavée de Vendeuvre and Bourlon de Sarty are still the owners today of the castle are.
In October 1848 the parish took its current name. In the 19th and 20th centuries, Vendeuvre was home to an important production of saints, founded by the Parisian sculptor Léon Moynet.
Population development
With a consistently positive birth balance , the development of the community's population benefited from a strong influx, especially at the beginning of the 1970s. Since the beginning of the 1980s, the place has recorded a decline in population due to emigration in excess of the birth surplus .
