Ville-sous-la-Ferté is about 57 kilometers east-southeast of Troyes on the Aube , which borders the municipality in the east. Ville-sous-la-Ferté is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Baroville in the north and north-west, Bayel in the north-east, Longchamp-sur-Aujon in the east and north-east, Juvancourt in the east, Laferté-sur-Aube in the south, and Champignol-lez-Mondeville in the West and Arconville to the west and northwest.
The station is on the Paris – Mulhouse line . Autoroute A5 runs along the southern municipal boundary .

Attractions
- Former Clairvaux monastery , founded in 1115, dissolved in 1791, converted into a prison in the 19th century, a maximum security prison since the 1970s. The communist André Marty was imprisoned here in the 1920s , now the terrorist Ilich Ramírez Sánchez (known as Carlos, the jackal) .
