Fuligny is a French commune with 45 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aube department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Champagne-Ardenne ). The municipality is part of the Bar-sur-Aube arrondissement and the Vendeuvre-Soulaines municipal association founded in 2016 .

geography

The municipality of Fuligny is located in the east of the Aube department on a plateau between the river valleys of Aube and Marne , 14 kilometers north of Bar-sur-Aube and about 60 kilometers east of Troyes . The north and west of the 10.34 km² municipal area consists of forests ( Bois de l'Étang Guillaume, La Mare des Quatre Vents, Bois d'Arrêt, Bois Là-Haut, Bois de la Forêt ), the rest is made up of large arable land embossed on flat undulating terrain. In the municipal area of ​​Fuligny, some small rivers arise ( Ruisseau de Châtillon, Ruisseau de Villemaheu , Ruisseau de l'Étang Guillaume ), which flow parallel to the north and drain over the Laines to the Voire . Place name

The village was founded in 6 BC. . AD under the name Aquilavilla first mentioned. At that time it was a court estate (Latin villa ) that was offered to a Roman legionnaire for his services. The place was near the Roman Via Agrippa , which connected Boulogne-sur-Mer to Turin via Augustobona (Troyes) . Ailleville was part of the county of Bar-sur-Aube until 1076, when it became part of the county of Champagne .

Personalities

Olivier Messiaen (1908–1992), one of the greatest composers of contemporary music of the 20th century, spent a lot of time with relatives in Fuligny. In 1928, at the age of 20, he composed seven of his first piano works. He also analyzed bird calls in the woods around Fuligny and was a recognized ornithologist.
