economy

The Drappier champagne house has been producing champagne here in the eighth generation since 1808. It is not one of the big brands, but is perhaps the best known of the smaller ones. The Romans had already started wine production on this basis. Parts of the cellars were built under Bernhard von Clairvaux and his Cistercian monks. The most famous customer was probably the neighbor Charles de Gaulle . The quality of Drappier champagne is still famous today. Cellar tours are possible.

Since 2007, the Drappier champagne house has been producing a "Quattuor" cuvée made from 25% each of Petit Meslier , Arbane , Pinot Blanc vrai (Pinot Blanc) and Chardonnay. The old white grape varieties, which are approved for the production of champagne in addition to the Chardonnay (the only thing missing is the Pinot gris vrai, which is currently being grown again), are only rarely used.

Individual evidence

  1. Mme Drappier and Mme de Gaulle were friends. Incidentally, De Gaulle wrote the checks in his name. All later presidents (until today) also bought from Drappier, but since then the check has read "Président de la république". His grandson ordered a special cuvée in 1995, which is still sold today, with his approval the likeness of his grandfather is shown on the label.
