Jessains (still written Gessains in 1793 ) is a French commune with 275 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aube department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Champagne-Ardenne ). The municipality is part of the Bar-sur-Aube arrondissement and the Vendeuvre-Soulaines municipal association founded in 2016 . The residents call themselves Jessainois .
geography
Jessains is located on the Aube , twelve kilometers downstream bon Bar-sur-Aube and about 35 kilometers east of Troyes in the Forêt d'Orient Regional Nature Park . On the northern edge of the 10.88 km² community, the Canal d'amenée branches off from the Aube, which feeds the 5 km² Lac Amance and the 20 km² Lac d'Auzon-Temple connected to it. The area around Jessains shows only slight differences in altitude and is characterized by arable land. Along the Aube there are large stands of alluvial forest, the Bois de Jessains forest extends to the south . Several former gravel pits along the Aube are now used for fish farming.
Jessains is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Unienville in the north, Trannes in the east, Bossancourt and Dolancourt (point of contact) in the southeast, Argançon in the south, Vauchonvilliers in the southwest and Amance in the west.

Economy and Infrastructure
Eight farms are located in Jessains, mainly engaged in the cultivation of cereals, pulses and oilseeds.
On Jessains opposite bank of the Aube , the highway D 396 of runs Vitry-le-François to Bar-sur-Aube . 20 kilometers southwest of Jessains there is a connection to the Autoroute A5 from Paris to Langres . The former Jessains train station, about a kilometer south of the village, was on the Paris – Mulhouse railway line . The largely disused railway line Jessains – Sorcy branched off here . The nearest train station still in operation today is in the town of Bar-sur-Aube, twelve kilometers away.
