Ailleville is a French commune with 251 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aube department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Champagne-Ardenne ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Bar-sur-Aube and to the municipal association Région de Bar-sur-Aube, founded in 1993 . The inhabitants are called Aillevillois .
geography
Ailleville is located at a bend in the Aube , two and a half kilometers northwest of Bar-sur-Aube and about 50 kilometers east of Troyes . The community area of 5.01 km² extends from the right bank of the Aube and its wide valley to approx. 160 m above sea level over the vine-planted slopes to a partially wooded high plateau in the northeast. The highest point in the municipality is reached here at 296 m. Along the Aube there are still alluvial forests, in the east the Bois du Val Joudrey forest extends .
Ailleville is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Montier-en-l'Isle in the north-west and north, Arrentières in the north-east, Bar-sur-Aube in the south-east and Proverville in the south-west.
Place name
The village was founded in 6 BC. . AD under the name Aquilavilla first mentioned. At that time it was a court estate (Latin villa ) that was offered to a Roman legionnaire for his services. The place was near the Roman Via Agrippa , which connected Boulogne-sur-Mer to Turin via Augustobona (Troyes) . Ailleville was part of the county of Bar-sur-Aube until 1076, when it became part of the county of Champagne .

Attractions
- The Saint-Martin church, originally built as a wooden church under Count Simon Bar von Crespy-Valois, was replaced by a limestone structure at the beginning of the 12th century. St. Martin was the patron saint of winemakers in the Middle Ages. The parish of St. Martin belonged to the diocese of Langres and was dependent on the Saint-Maclou chapter in Bar-sur-Aube. The Romanesque choir with a barrel vault was renewed in 1814, while the nave was reconstructed in the 19th century

- The 17th century castle was flanked by four square towers and was surrounded by moats on two of the four sides. It was built on the site of an old manor house documented in 1521. The castle's residents included the noble families of Ailleville, Jaucourt, Yardin, Choiseul and Lux de Ventelet. The ensemble of the castle includes a well-preserved dovecote and a park with two avenues of plane trees that lead from the castle to the nearby main street.

Economy and Infrastructure
In Ailleville eight wine producers are located, in the wine-growing region de l'Aube Côte within the vineyard Champagne mainly Pinot Noir cultivate grapes and depending on the quality of basic wines must provide for the production of champagne.
Ailleville is on the D 619 from Troyes to Chaumont . The nearest train station on the Paris – Mulhouse line is in the town of Bar-sur-Aube, two and a half kilometers away .
