The desert runners ( Eremias ) are a genus within the family of real lizards with 22 species.

They usually have fringed scales on the sides of the fingers and toes, which also have keeled scales on the underside. They differ from the fringed-finger lizards in that the nostrils have no contact with the shields of the upper lip. In addition, the occiput is missing. The thin tail is noticeably thickened at the root and the nostrils protrude.
