Charles II. D'Amboise (* 1472/73; † February 11, 1511 in Correggio ) was the military governor of Paris and Marshal of France and Admiral of France .

Life

Charles II d'Amboise was the son of Charles I. d'Amboise and Catherine de Chauvigny, and the brother of Catherine d'Amboise and nephew of Cardinal Georges d'Amboise .

He was lord of Chaumont-sur-Loire , Sagonne , Meillant and Charenton , knight of the Ordre du Roi. In 1502 he became Grand Master of France , in 1504 Marshal and in 1508 Admiral of France .

Charles II. D'Amboise was governor of Paris (1493-1496) and Normandy . In 1501 he was Lieutenant General of Lombardy , when the entry of Louis XII. prepared in Genoa on August 26, 1502. As ruler of the city, he suppressed a revolt of the inhabitants in 1507. At the Battle of Agnadello on May 14, 1509, he commanded the vanguard of the royal army.

In 1491 he married Jeanne Malet de Graville († September 18, 1540 in the Château de Marcoussis ) from the Malet family , daughter of Louis Malet , lord of Graville, admiral of France, and Marie de Balzac. The couple had a son, Georges d'Amboise, * 1501/02, † February 24, 1525 in the Battle of Pavia , Lords of Chaumont, Vendeuvre , Vigny and Vaudémont .

In addition, he had an illegitimate son, Michel Bâtard d'Amboise , * in Naples probably 1505, † after 1548, who became the progenitor of the later counts and margraves of Amboise and lords of Clos Lucé .

Charles II d'Amboise (like his father and later his son) was buried in the Franciscan chapel in Amboise .
