Saint Laurent Church

Nogent-sur-Seine [ nɔ.ʒã.syʁ.sɛn ] is a French commune with 5980 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aube department in the Grand Est region ; it is the administrative seat ( sub-prefecture ) of the arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Seine .

geography

Nogent lies on the Seine , which is navigable up to this point, and on the road from Provins to Romilly-sur-Seine . The Nogent nuclear power plant is located about two kilometers upstream .

history

Nogent-sur-Seine already existed in Gallo-Roman times. From the 12th century, the city belonged to the county of Champagne. It was destroyed by fire in 1442. In February 1814 ( battle near Mormant ) the city suffered damage. Napoleon's troops could not hold the city and blew up a bridge behind them when they withdrew.
