The place belongs to the arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Seine and the canton of Creney-près-Troyes . history

Until the French Revolution, Saint-Mesmin was within the province of Champagne . The community belonged to the Arcis-sur-Aube district from 1793 to 1801. Since 1801 it has been assigned to the Arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Seine. From 1793 to 1801 the place was assigned to the canton Chauchigny. From 1801 to 2015, the municipality was within the canton of Méry-sur-Seine .
