Saint Martin Church

Savières is a French commune with 1,005 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aube department in the Grand Est region . The place belongs to the arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Seine and the canton of Creney-près-Troyes . In addition, the community is part of the company founded in 2007 Municipalities of His Fontaine Beauregard . The inhabitants are called Saviotins / Saviotines .

geography

Savières is located around 15 kilometers northwest of Troyes in the north-western center of the Aube department. The community consists of a number of settlements that have grown together to form the village of Savières. The hamlet of Blives also belongs to the community. Large areas of the municipality are (former) marshland.

Neighboring communities are Saint-Mesmin in the north-west, Rilly-Sainte-Syre in the north-east, Chauchigny in the east, Villacerf in the south-east, Payns in the south, Le Pavillon-Sainte-Julie in the west and Fontaine-les-Grès in the north-west.

history

Until the French Revolution, Savières was within the province of Champagne . From 1793 to 1801 the community belonged to the Arcis sur Aube district. From 1801 to 1926 it was part of the Arcis sur Aube arrondissement. Since then it has been assigned to the Arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Seine. From 1793 to 1801 the place was assigned to the canton Chauchigny. From 1801 to 2015, the municipality was within the canton of Méry-sur-Seine .
